In an effort to improve the standard of living of the less fortunate in Guyana, Food For The Poor Guyana Inc. (FFTP) has assisted with housing projects, building over 465 houses so far.The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has been distributing a monthly hamper to persons in all the administrative regions for years, but according to Executive Director Leon Davis,NFL Jerseys Outlet, the NGO decided to go a step further.He said five years ago, some Amerindians in St Cuthbert’s Mission invited the organization to check out their housing conditions.The Executive Director said that when their officers visited the village, the condition in which the people were living in was “terrible” and was not suitable for human beings.“At that point, after consulting the donors, we decided that we would build houses for the people there,” the Executive Director said.Forty two-bedroom houses, along with a community centre, were built for the people at St Cuthbert’s Mission.At the community centre, the people would go once a month to receive their hampers.The housing project was then expanded and “taken throughout Guyana”, and the “poorest out of the poor” and “the neediest of the needy” were mainly the beneficiaries.The second community was built in Region One – Wunga and Tobago. There, Davis said Amerindians were living in “swamps.”“We moved them and took them to higher grounds. We built 40 houses with sanitation blocks and they moved there,” Davis added.Davis stressed that the persons responsible for the contribution of the villages are strictly foreign donors. He also added that he wished persons from Guyana would also join to assist the less fortunate.In 2009, FFTP along with its donors, constructed 100 houses and a school in the Lil’ Red Village in Region Two. A community centre and a school were also built for the people.To further empower the people in Siriki, FFTP “put down” a sawmill to assist loggers.According to the Executive Director, the step taken by the NGO to put the sawmill in place has enhanced the community, because the men are now able to cut logs and have them sold.Davis added that while constructing the villages, FFTP would buy logs from the villagers and pay them for their labour if they assisted in making the houses.In Princeville Community Development, Region Two, 65 houses were built. In addition, a water facility was put in place, a community centre was also built and expansion was done to the village’s school.Also in Region Two, 50 houses and a community centre were built at Tapakuma.Although not officially opened,Wholesale Jerseys, Mashabo Community Development, Region Eight, is already serving its purpose.
