But so far, the few showers they had proved to them that the rain was incapable of offering some respite from the harsh dry weather from 2015.The Rupununi has never been hit by a drought of this magnitude since the first one in 1988 and even then neither the residents nor the government was prepared for it. This heat waves begun early in 2015, and have increased over the past few months.The situation was even declared a state of emergency, promoting the region to start fetching water to the communities after they were struck.El Nino was not confined to the Rupununi. The drought also hit parts of Region One. It was in this same region, in the latter part of last year that was stricken with an outbreak of gastroenteritis.Region Nine Executive Officer, Carl Parker, yesterday stated that the Region was trying its bestThe creek under the Moco Moco Falls is drying up also. He said the region had experienced a few days of rain but it was not enough to change the effects of the emergency.“A lot of communities are still in danger.
